Ward Eight

Hi Rye Whiskey

The Ward Eight a late 19th/early 20th century creation is one of Boston’s contributions to the pantheon of great American cocktails. By many accounts the original cocktail recipe was created at the Locke-Ober Café in Boston’s 8th Ward, perhaps to honor a local political boss’ election to the state Legislature. At its heart, the Ward Eight cocktail is a Whiskey Sour variation and while there are many differing recipes the most popular features rye whiskey with lemon juice, orange juice & grenadine.
