First appearing in Harry MacElhone’s cocktail book, Barflies & Cocktails, the Old Pal cocktail is a variant of the Boulevardier cocktail. While the Bourlevardier is a variation of the gin-based Negroni cocktail, the Old Pal keeps the whiskey & Campari but switches the third ingredient. For the Old Pal, sweet vermouth is replaced by dry, or in this case, Blanc vermouth and results in a well-balanced, booze forward, whiskey warming cocktail. The original recipe calls for a ratio of 1:1:1 while some modern recipes have switched this to a 2:1:1 ratio.

Ingredients:

1 ounce PostModern Spirits Hi, Rye Whiskey
1 ounce Blanc Vermouth
1 ounce PostModern Spirits Amaro Arancia

Garnish:

Lemon Twist

Method:

Stir all ingredients with ice until well chilled and diluted. Strain into a chilled cocktail coupe and garnish with a lemon twist.
